ATO letter requesting interview
Hi everyone,
Last year my sis in-law got penalised for using Mark’s method to minimise her taxes. She had answered a phone call requesting an audit and we sent them back a letter explaining why she had put her expenses as it was. The staff member refused her request and imposed a 50% penalty on her claims.
This year, we documented our receipts and submitted a tax return. They have processed the tax refund, reversed it and changed it so she has a small tax outstanding to pay.
Furthermore, she received a letter from another officer requesting a formal interview with her over what they claim is a recklessly false and misleading statement, without giving further details.
We are going to write a letter requiring them to provide clear details of what they claim is recklessly false and misleading. We will also point out my sister in-law has accepted the penalty and paid for it, therefore wishes to close this chapter.
Any other suggestions?
God bless,
Brian
