Hello from Canada. It’s tax time here in Canada and I am wanting to try the methods from the tax module. I have watched the video and have read through all the forum questions too. Lots of information (thank you) .

Our forms for CRA are completely different to fill out. (they look completely different than AUS) There is no space that is called ” Other work related expenses” They make it harder for us with their 165 lined questions to fill out.

Has anyone from Canada filled out their tax forms using the Solutions Empowerment method? If so where did you place the ” Other work related expenses” and what were your results?

My partner is a teacher (employed by the indoctrinated system) so he would fill out the individual and I am self employed (seems so much easier). In the video it states to INCLUDE the affidavit but in the paperwork it says to hold on to it with the receipts in case of audit. Which way is better?

I also noticed through the forum that it seems as though “GOV” is cracking down on we the people regarding this and giving penalties and dismissing those expenses and calling us reckless, do you feel like this method is still accurate to use? I know they are on to us.

Sorry for all the questions, it is my first questions asked in the forum 🙂

Thank you for all your help and much love

    Dani

Hi, you can include the affidavit as a true and correct copy and keep the original yourself. As for expenses just make sure you have receipts or evidence that what you are claiming is a true expense eg if claiming travel expenses then a log book will be evidence if claiming meals or training then receipts would be evidence. I don’t know how you would fill out your form otherwise. Maybe go to the next Q and A and ask your question/s there?… https://solutionsempowerment.org/event/general-qa-april-10/

If your partner is employed by the State then how can he claim to be self employed?

He would only be able to claim work related expenses that the State allows wouldn’t he? Unless of course he is a private contractor and working for the State on that basis.

I will claim as self employed and when he does his he will claim his pay from government. I was wandering that too when I was watching the video, he works for the government so he probley cannot put “other work related expenses” can he as they will know right away. ?? As a teacher Half his pay goes to the government. (I guess that is the down side of it) 🙁 Because he works for the government he cannot get his taxes back.

Also one more question, every year since 2017 me and my partner have put down common law on our return (I know now from the video that a piece of paper cannot be married or in a relationship) There is 6 boxes you can check off on the paper in that section (1. Married 2. Living Common-law 3. Widowed 4. Divorced 5. Separated 6. Single.) Because every year I have put: “Living common law” what do we do for this year? In the video it says stroke it out and write “N/A”. They will question this. Or do I check off Separated (now that I know more)

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate the help 🙂
