Help I’ve been to 2 JP’s and both refused to sign my Affidavit of expenses. One because of the different ways I wrote my name (all caps and lower case) and the other because it wasn’t laid out properly and should be a Stat Dec,

    Thanks Katie

      Hi Katie,

I went down this route and the ATO sent my wife and I a templated letter stating that we are not exempt from paying taxes as the ATO is a community asset.

I prefer instead to set up an ABN to provide business to others and that allows me to claim work from home expenses, utility bills, car expenses, travel expenses and other expenses necessary to run a business. This way, I have more threshold to claim deductions for my tax return. My friends who have done similar have thus far succeeded in receiving a bigger refund.

      God bless,

      Brian

That sounds great but I don’t have that option. A community asset are they? I’d like to hear them define ‘community’!

If you are in Queensland, there is the qld JP handbook that you can find online for free. You can use that handbook to quote that you are using the approved format. Section 4.7
