  • Success with applying for refund of previous taxes

Posted by brianchu82 on June 6, 2024 at 9:29 pm

    Hi everyone,

Last November I sent a letter requesting the ATO refund some of my taxes arising from part of my rental expense while I was working from home.

I attach my letter detailing the case. I also attached my rental agreement and utility bills as proof.

Three months later, I received a refund constituting the deducted tax, plus interest.

It worked without using my living man/woman status and claiming I don’t have to pay taxes. Instead I operated within their system.

So this approach worked for me.

    God bless,

    Brian

Awesome Brian, can you post this in the Successes forum under Privat Community Forums?

Well done, Brian. I hadn’t logged into ATO for years, but see LYN OF THE MANGAN FAMILY, is listed as BENEFICIARY under authorized contacts on the TFN account. It’s in ALL CAPS but still…? There is another Unknown contact too so I will call and ask some questions. Has anyone else seen this?

    Hi Brian,

I am not able to download your letter, and can only read page 1. I am in the process of completing a request for amendment of income tax return for previous 2 years. How can I view the 2nd page of this document to the ATO?
