Early super withdrawal
Posted by Luke on July 16, 2023 at 1:33 pmHello everyone, I’m looking for where on this website I might find some discussion regarding early withdrawal of superannuation and the best way to approach my super fund without bottlenecking myself into any restrictive categories offered.
Any suggestions appreciated, cheers, and have a lovely day

Thanks for helping out Morag.
As it is i am eligible for early release due to financial hardship, and did so last year, the problem here is this category is capped at 10 K.
I’m in a unusual situation where I’m home educating my three offspring solo at a property where we have no electricity supplied. Long story short, essential information was previously withheld by super fund, we have an extensive list of needs which all come under the eligibility criteria, our situation is beyond financial hardship and now they are not willing to enter into email communication to clarify how it is they may be able to help instead telling me to talk to my local MP, contact Centrelink or lodge a complaint. I’m wondering the best way to network with others that may know of the more intimate inner workings of groups like GESB, who may be able to suggest a path for remedy.

Hi Jondha, local MPs can be incredibly helpful when dealing with issues of hardship in my experience, so it may be good to approach your local MP to see if you can enlist their help. Another source that i have found helpful (this is in NZ) is the local Community Law centre (if you have an equivalent over there) where you can get free legal help and assistance. If there is a compassionate lawyer there they can sometimes be very very helpful in helping one gain a remedy. I would try these two area first before starting a private proceeding (which can be long and drawn out and require a high level of competency, which can take hours of study and application to gain)

Thank you Morag, this is useful and practical info. I’ll contact the local MP and as I only recently contacted my community law service on a different topic, I’ll try them again.
Cheers
