Beehives in my backyard
Hi all, what would you do?
Im about to setup a beehive or two in my back yard and as you know legs, stats, regs only apply to person/s. So im not planning on becoming registered, however following all “safe practices” for biosecurity purposes. Now, would you notify your neighbours that you are going to do such thing or not worry about it? If I should notify them should i use a 3 notice process or should i not worry? I cant see it being to much of a big deal. However, just want to see, as im not sure how the neighbours would respond!

If you are on friendly terms with your neighbours you could inform them of what you are doing and reassure them you would be following safe practices. Or you could just set it up and deal with anything that might come up as you go. As long as the beehives are not too noticeable then the neighbours probably won’t even worry about it and will just assume you know what you are doing. If anyone approaches you remember to answer a question with a question. So you could prepare questions in answer to what you think anyone might approach you and ask about.

I kept bees in Sydney on a 600mtr block.they fly directly in and out of their hive opening. they dont queue to get in and they are quiet. I didnt register either, and had no problems with neighbours who used to object to most things I did and often peered over the fence 🙂 Bees seem to be fine with most people. I wouldnt worry about notifying the neighbours. Why draw attention when theres nothin to look at?
