compulsory fluoridation of town supply water
My neighbor has included me in his email conversation with our council regarding the compulsory fluoridation of water supply being forced on all councils in New Zealand by the govt.
the mind set of both parties is diametrically opposed and they interact honorably ( at this point carl is getting no where)
I’m posting the thread for educational purposes .
Dear councilor.
I am writing to convey my concern that the NPDC is planning to add fluoride to the water supply by the end of July.
This takes away the choice from the public to avoid this substance easily.
98% of Europe has rejected fluoridation .It was banned in the Netherlands in 1976,in Sweden in 1971 and East Germany in 1998.
How is it that our Government is ignoring the overwhelming evidence of the harm that Fluoride does to our children and enforcing this on us.?
41 % of new Zealand children have some form of dental fluorosis according to the Ministry of health which is agreed by the organizations promoting fluoridation.
If a doctor gives you fluoride medicine there is a warning on the bottle that it must not be given to under three year old’s.
The statistics show that Fluoridated water has no impact on tooth decay(see NZ school dental statistics 2016)
There are a number of other concerns also that effect adults.
In my view the best option to apply fluoride to our teeth ,(if we believe it to beneficial) is the brush your teeth with fluoride tooth paste. This option would be far more cost effective also and allow those who can’t tolerate fluoride to free option to avoid it.
It is the same price as non fluoridated tooth paste and has the desired effect.
Drinking fluoridated water has a very minimal effect and those that it is intended for tend to drink sweet drinks most of the time.
I suggest you visit http://www.floridefree.org.nz for more information.
Please contact me and give me your position on this matter and if you are interested in learning more about this subject. I admit that I was not aware of how many very bad health issues fluoride causes until recently
It is paramount that the NPDC urgently reviews this decision before harming its children and grand children.

Subject: RE: Fluoridation of NPDC water supply
Kia ora Carl,
Thank you for your email and for raising your concerns.
Fluoridating the water is not a decision that the council has made – it is a decision of the Ministry of Health. I believe the Ministry is in a better position than district councils to properly analyse the evidence available. Regardless, I have reviewed some of the more up to date research, and I am still not satisfied that the possible harm outweighs the benefits. Nevertheless, I understand that some of my colleagues are exploring different options, including becoming a party to the statement of claim being filed by barrister Lisa Hansen. Nevertheless, NPDC would still need to comply with the Ministry of Health’s order in the meantime – deliberately acting in contravention of legislation is not an option for the Council.

New Plymouth District Councillor (District-Wide)
Hi Amanda. Thanks for your response regarding this matter.
Has the council infact asked the Ministry of Health for evidence of studies to back this mandate they are forcing our council to undertake.?
It is very serious for them to impose a large fine for not doing so.
I don’t believe that our council should simply follow orders from our Government when there is overwhelming world wide concerns and warnings after many extensive studies.
Ministry of health does not have the right to administer a health product to the public with out informed consent.
Has the council informed the public of this measure to Fluoridate all our water and has it provided an alternative to those who don’t want it or may be even allergic to fluoride(I have been informed that some people are not able to consume any at all).?
Regards Carl
