Blacks Dictionary not in Law library – Can anyone confirm this is true?
Can anyone confirm this is true in the other major universities?
(Approx) 6th April 2024 – Went to Q.U.T. Brisbane 6 story library. Anyone can walk in as everyone at any age looks like a student. Was looking for science books, but thought I’d check out a real copy of Blacks 4th ed. or earlier. The law section was ONLY ~2 aisles. This was strange. The online catalogue said there were 3 Blacks dictionaries on the shelf. The were zero law dictionaries of any type. A few aisles over there were several copies of all the main dictionaries.
– I went home wondering how is it possible that in a major 1st world city university there was only 2 aisles of law books and zero law dictionaries.
– Turns out there is a whole separate law library all the way over the OTHER SIDE of the university campus.
11th April
– Found the Q.U.T. law library.
– Found the law dictionary shelf (which was slightly out of place by several meters)
– Only a full version of Blacks 10th ed. and a pocket ed. of 5th ed. were there. NO VERSIONS PRIOR!
– The librarian confirmed this.
– The librarian also brought up the precedent Cruden v Neal 1796 (from U.S.A.) on the Westlaw database, but as I was not a CURRENT student, she could not print it for me.
