  • ComputerShare requesting my US residency status!? (for Australian ETF holdings)

Posted by simon-limon on July 5, 2025 at 8:24 pm

Received a letter from ComputerShare regarding an ASX ETF I held.

They requested I provide my US residency status.

If I didn’t, they would inform the ATO, who may inform the foreign (US) tax office.

My residency/tax/citizen status has always been Australia. It’s never been anything but.
Interested if others have received similar letters.

    Obviously, I am not concerned.

Must be a glitch in the AI processes. This could illustrate how far from perfect algorithms and AI processes are? Still AI processes and algorithms and trojan horses and rats are still able to watch what we do in our private moments if we have a spy device aka smartphone on our person or a trojan horse or rat on our computer. They are also building into operating systems now, the ability for algorithms to capture every keystroke we make so if we have an operating system with this built in (microsoft and others) then even end to end encryption and private websites won’t stop them being able to spy on us and gather data about us. Only older computers with a Linux operating system can perhaps sidestep this intrusive new development.

Registered Lawyer/accountant trusts and SMSF are subject to legislation.
