Non Negotiable Autograph
The rare occasion the bank has asked me to demonstrate my signature, I reply its been years since I first gave them a ‘version’ so I may not get it right. I decided to update the version they have on file. I signed they way Mark has taught us – with By: before the signature. And All Rights Reserved beneath. I don’t include the legal name in Title Case in those circumstances because of lack of space. However because it’s a matter involving commerce I included an additional detail. The words non-negotiable autograph. Personally, I write this above the signature so it’s literally connected and legible. I needed to repeat this recently for a bank teller and she told me it was the most interesting signature ever. Why do I use this? Because the bank securitises our signatures every time it is accessed. it is used to leverage the Trust attached to that signature. It generates credits ( not money, but credits on a computer screen). A deposit slip or any other transaction with that signature is very valuable to a bank. An early instance of signing this way with the bank was in fact making a small cash deposit over the counter. The teller told me I couldn’t sign that way! I held my position and the manager was called. The manager said it wasn’t allowed, I stood strong until I received an irritated ‘oh, bloody well process it then’. Although staff have been oblivious in other instances. Any Notice stating monetary values or Invoice gets the same treatment with the signature especially if it involves an financial institution. It’s not necessary outside of these examples. So, to be clear, I’ve updated my record at the bank so this is on file
