My mum has always baked, i was visiting for the weekend, she told that the baking ingredients arnt found locally any more. the grey bakers yeast in the silver packet, true rye flour, once in their local supermarket, now found in Auckland , 3 hours drive away, In a little Indian family run shop off dominion road ,near Eden park, out the back of the main street shops, through a little non rescript doorway. Cash preferred. No credit cards, eftpos adds 1.5 % . Sounded like a drug deal when she explained it. How she even found the place i have no clue,
while its true a company will replace a perishable product with a shelf stable one, (dried yeast) and delete a product line when its returns diminish. What this tells me is people arnt baking with the best ingredients (perishable) if regular Home baking is happening at all.
Mean while in Auckland’s inner-city suburb, Greylynn (upwardly mobile & fashionable , vanity home part of town) the organic supermarket, closed its doors, I’m reliably informed by one sister who lives there, organic food was getting too expensive no one could afford it . This in a neighborhood where joint incomes are $500K to million , before bonus. however , you are paying 3 to 8 million for a house. Absolute Doer upper is at the bottom end a more modern already done up at the top end. It gets surreal when you consider what greylynn was ,once the immigrant working class cheap part of town where every section had fruit trees and a vege garden, Today the compost bin , 44 gallon drum incinerators , scraggly citrus trees, have long been removed, the vege garden , smoothed over and landscaped in accordance to the latest fashion. plastic (fake) grass as in my sisters case. Grass that when the dog pees on it you rush out and sprinkle liberal amount of doggy pee deodorant on it.
My 79 year old mum has had it up to hear with banks, she knows banks are conspiring to get everyone into digital money. I wish I’d recorded her to hear my mum still with a strong Finnish accent to her English swear, is some thing of a delight…

As we know the world is changing, everything is transforming , by stealth alot of the time, fresh wholesome ingredients for fresh nutrient rich food, baking that contains no preservatives. Harder to come by , by no means impossible, but we have to put in a Bit more effort of you want it.
I have a very poor relationship with my parents, I’m making the effort to spend more time with them now , By regularly going home for a sauna weekend and mums baking. We sauna drink wine eat well and watch a net flick movie, in bed by 9 out to it , I’m not as sauna fit as i used to be. By day 3 were talking much more easily about the old country , relatives , the world was where they see it going today and whose got what disease or complaint. listening to old people talk about health care systems all over the world is eye opening, not surprising , eye opening as to how bad things are.
Why did i share this ?,after all the effort and brain power spent on uncovering what is going on in the world, the way the world really works, the search for a remedy . We can forget We’re all still human were all in this together ,with loved ones and life long friends whose presence in our lives makes it richer . If you haven’t all ready drop the term sheeple,
AS the empire declines around us, get to know your parents get to know your friends a new , we never know when they’ll be gone. Or when we’ll be gone.
And remember, families with strong ties are the Bain of governments. they spent huge efforts breaking us up.
