    Dear Mel,

    <font size=”3″ face=”Arial”>

    Thank you for your enquiry.

    It may be helpful if I explain that when a child is born, a birth notification is issued by the National Health Service to the registrar in the district where the birth took place, to assist that registrar in fulfilling their statutory function, under the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953, to ensure that all births in the district are registered.

    Whilst the GRO for England and Wales does not hold this information, you may wish to contact the NHS Trust, in the district of your birth, to enquire whether they retain the birth notification information.

    Regards
