    I had the same experience today and last week, I still initialled each page and they also wanted me to sign in black by using the pen they used, I politely said no thanks I will sign in blue.
    Just go to different JP’s until you find one and they become familiar with you, no point in wasting time and energy on them.

    As Morag pointed out, they are only there to witness the signature and verify your face to the ID and get you to read out the Affirmation.

    Also a good idea to take in a printout of the Justice of The Peace Association (whichever state you are in) website where it states the roles of the JP and remind them of this.

    It mostly comes from (in my case in NSW) Imperial Acts Application Act (NSW) 1969, I used the following in a conditional acceptance in relation to an infringement notice

    Revenue NSW is a court, and that the charge of ‘Not stop at stop line’
    isn’t a fraud by virtue fines and infringements are illegal pursuant to the
    Imperial Acts Application Act (NSW) 1969
