I got an email after the last WA state election, saying “Our records indicate that you were on the electoral roll for the recent
WA State election on Saturday, 8 March 2025 but appear not to have
voted.”
I replied: “I abstained from voting as it is part of my religious duty. As per the Western Australian Electoral Act 1907 – Sect 156”
Which states: “a valid and sufficient reason in relation to a failure to
vote includes an honest belief on the part of an elector that
abstaining from voting is part of their religious duty.”
They accepted my ‘reason’ and left me alone after that.
