That was very interesting that squatters have more rights than people with mortgages and that police and councils won’t intervene, that explains why they push so hard for the people in arrears to vacate the property willingly, because even if the mortgage isn’t paid they still have possession. Maybe it’s a tactic to think about when they are trying to kick people off when a mortgage is in arrears due to hardship. One could establish that they are living by getting the police or bailiffs to agree that they are living and record the agreement then claim squatters rights? Or maybe get friends in as well to help claim squatters rights? Even if the police or bailiffs still took them off the land it would establish on the record that they WILL intervene and help with squatters and that precedent could maybe then be used to help others who are having problems with squatters?
